Synvisc Injection

What is osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis. osteoarthritis results from wear and tear on the joints. Osteoarthritis causes you to lose cartilage, which helps the bones and joints move smoothly. Without cartilage, the bones begin to rub against each other causing pain and limiting mobility.

How do Synvisc-One injections work?

Synvisc-One is a nonsurgical viscosupplementation treatment used to address knee osteoarthritis. Synvisc-One helps manage patients’ symptoms by relieving pain and increasing flexibility.

Synvisc-One injections are made of a viscous, gel-like natural substance called hyaluronan. Hyaluronan is present in the body and acts as a lubricant and shock absorber for your joints. When injected into the knee, Synvisc-One increases the lubrication in your knee, cushioning the joints and relieving knee pain.

Synvisc-One injections are ideal for patients who have not experienced relief from traditional treatment methods like physical activity and over-the-counter pain relievers. Synvisc-One injections can provide you with up to six months of pain relief. Once your symptoms begin to return, you can return to your doctor for another injection.

Synvisc-One is a safe and effective alternative to cortisone injections, which typically require a series of three or more injections to produce results. Synvisc-One requires only one injection that provides months of reliable pain relief.

Are Synvisc-One injections painful?

Your doctor applies a numbing cream before the Synvisc-One injection. This limits any pain or discomfort during the procedure. After the procedure, you may experience temporary swelling, redness, or discomfort in the treatment area.  You should avoid strenuous activity for at least 48 hours after the injection.

How long before I see results?

The time it takes to see results from the Synvisc-One injection can vary. Many patients experience relief from their knee pain a month after treatment. Multiple injections can be given but it usually isn’t necessary.

Synvisc-One injections provide you with a reliable, nonsurgical method of relieving your knee pain.
